December 9th 1946 - Nuremberg trials

On December 9th 1946, the trial of 20 doctors and three non-physicians, accused of organizing and implementing criminal medical policies during the Nazi period, begins before the first American Military Tribunal at Nuremberg. This is about crimes against humanity, such as the killing of prisoners, with whose skeletons university collections were created, as well as involuntary human experimentation and euthanasia, crimes carried out in concentration camps and hospitals, performed on detainees and inmates. (original sound bite): witness The Doctors trial refutes the theory that medical crimes were the sole actions of the SS. Rather the Wehrmacht pharmaceutical manufacturers and universities had similar interest absent any ethical inhibitions to have experiments conducted on humans rather than on animals. The Doctor's trial ends in August of 1947 with eight death sentences and seven defendants sentenced to life in prison.
