August 1st 1936 - Opening of Olympic Games in Berlin

August 1st 1936 - The first Olympic Games on German soil begin in Berlin. Hitler personally greets the athletes in the Olympic Stadium and takes the opportunity to enhance the world view of National-socialism through Nazi propaganda. The International community is fooled. A total of 49 countries send athletes to the capital, the spectacle is put into the limelight by filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl. While the crowds are fascinated by the records being broken and Hitler, at least outwardly, recognizes the achievements of other countries, the Nazi terror continues. Two years later synagogues will burn, three years later Germany will trigger the Second World War.
