November 7th 1917 - October Revolution in Russia

 

November 7th 1917: The Day of the so-called “October Revolution” in Russia. After Vladimir Ilyich Lenins return from exile in Switzerland the Bolsheviks dispose of the provisional bourgeois government in Petrograd Kerensky and make way for the first 'workers and peasants' state. In February of 1917 Lenin's supporters revolted against the continuation of the war and brought about the abdication of Tsar Nicholas II. After several months of a double government alongside the more moderate forces the Bolsheviks now seek autocratic rule. The consequences are disastrous for their opponents. Lenin's Bolsheviks do not allow any kind of opposition. Citing Marx and Engels they expropriate the land kill the royal family and establish a communist dictatorship in Russia.
