July 1st 1911 – The Agadir Crisis

Morocco, July 1st 1911: Triggered by the competing French and German colonial interests, a serious crisis occurs. After Emperor Wilhelm II had only visited the country a few years before in order to give emphasis to Germanys claims personally he now turns to other means. Giving the reason of having to protect German citizens from rebellious Berbers he dispatches the canon-ship “Panther” to Agadir. In reality however fear increases of France gaining power which introduces itself as the protecting power of the Sultan. The Agadir Crisis triggers general resentments. In November of 1911 possibility arises to resolve the crisis though an agreement. France concedes parts of it's Central African possessions to Germany and therefore secures it's rule in Morocco.
