September 19th 1941 - Introduction of the yellow patch of the Jewish star in Germany

September 19th 1941: A police regulation come into effect in Germany, which requires the wearing of the Jewish star in the territory of the Reich in form of a yellow patch. With this measure the repressive measure by the Nazis against the Jewish citizens reach their temporary peak. Furthermore the Nazi leadership created an effective tool for themselves for capturing people who were to be deported to ghettos and concentration camps. To this day the yellow patch is regarded as a symbol of the Holocaust. Introduced in 1939 in Poland, it became obligatory in territories occupied by the Germans and in the states allied with the third Reich. After the Wannsee Conference in January of 1942, it created the essential conditions for the genocide.
