April 19th 1967 - Konrad Adenauer dies

19. April 1967: Federal Chancellor Konrad Adenauer dies in Bad Honnef. Adenauer, seen here in front of the German Parliament, defined like no other post-war German policy. Born in Cologne, the CDU-politician was the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic and simultaneously from 1951 to 1955 Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs. He earned great achievements in the reconciliation with France and the integration of the Federal Republic of Germany into the Western alliance. The return of German POWs from the Soviet Union in 1955 are also due to his initiative.
