July 16th 1918 - Murder of the Tsars family

In March of 1917 Czar Nicholas II abdicates. He had previously rejected any sort of constitutional change that would crate a democratic transformation of the country. Like his wife, Alexandra of Hesse Darmstadt, a granddaughter of Queen Victoria, he is a staunch supporter of the autocratic principle. The royal family is banished to Yekaterinburg. The opportunity to go into exile fails. The October revolution triumphs, Lenin comes to power. On the night of the 16th to the 17th of July 1918 the royal family and some of their staff are put to death brutally. To this day the murder is shrouded in rumors and legends. Did the order come from the highest authority in Moscow, or was it an arbitrary act of the local Bolsheviks?
