July 30th 1914 - General mobilization

On 30 July 1914 Tsar Nicholas II orders the general mobilization of Russian troops. It will be the beginning of his demise. The outbreak of World War I worsens the situation of the Tsar. The Russian army is unable to achieve any victories during the war, not even when Nicholas II personally takes over the command. The continuous failures now come back directly to Nicholas, undermine his reputation with his subjects. The majority of them is now completely impoverished by the war and suffers from hunger. Towards the end of 1916 confidants warn that there could be a revolution. But Nicholas refuses to accept reformations. The consequences of his anti-democratic attitude and excessive use of force in the suppression of uprisings in his own country, finally lead to his resignation in 1917.
