April 9th 1940 - German invasion of Denmark and Norway

April 9th 1940: Without a declaration of war on Denmark or Norway, Hitlers Wehrmacht invades both of them. The operation given the name "Weser Exercise" was directed against two neutral countries with Denmark even having agreed on a non-aggression pact with the German Reich in 1939. This means nothing to Hitler. In order to pre-empt an alleged British naval blockade and to secure the supply of iron ore for German arms factories he orders German troops cross the Danish border and to occupy strategic points on the west coast of Norway on the morning of the 9th of April. While Denmark capitulated on April 10th and thus could at least keep partial sovereignty Norway with the help of English and French troops resists for two months. Without success. Beginning in June of 1940 England pulls out its troops and Norway has to admit defeat in the face of Germany's superiority.
