April 14th 1949 - Verdict at Nuremberg Wilhelmstrasse trial

 

April 14th 1949: The so-called “Wilhelmstrasse Tria”, the U.S. court proceedings against members of the National Socialist government, ends in Nuremberg. It was the 11th of the twelve follow-up trials of Nuremberg and it was directed against representatives of the Foreign Ministry and other ministries, the Reich Chancellery, banks, industry and the Main Office of the SS. The most prominent defendant was former Secretary of State Ernst von Weizsäcker. For the planning and implementation of a war of aggression, committing war crimes and crimes against humanity, he and his co-defendants were sentenced to prison terms between 3 and 25 years, which to a large part had not to be served fully.
