June 18th 1940 - Charles de Gaulle calls for resistance

In May 1940, Charles de Gaulle is appointed as the youngest general in the French army. A little later he flys to London and there, in British exile, he begins to organize the resistance against the Nazis. On June 18th 1940, over Radio London, he urges the French nation to continue to fight alongside the Allies against the Germans. On British soil he begins to train, reorganize and regroup French units, some of which were scattered for example during the evacuation from Dunkirk to Britain, as "Free French Forces”. In August 1944, the time has finally come. De Gaulle returns to back to Paris under the cheers of the French, and becomes head of the provisional government of France.
