November 28th 1943 - Tehran conference

 

On November 28th 1943: The Tehran Conference begins. U.S. President Franklyn D. Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill meet their eastern ally, the Soviet leader Josef Stalin, for the first time. His Red Army had won the battle of Stalingrad, the British significantly contributed to the defeat of the German Africa Corps. Hitlers troops are retreating on all fronts and the Big Three are discussing the further conduct of their warfare in Teheran. They agree on a two-front war. A Soviet offensive in the East while simultaneously developing a second front in France by landing British and American troops on the Atlantic coast. In addition the Allies begin to think about what the world may look like after Hitler. The Big Three agree on a division of Germany among the Allies and deal with the fate of the countries bordering the Soviet Union. But discussions on post-war policy are not recorded as binding. First the world war had to be won before serious talks about the post-war period could begin.
