February 25th 1932 - Hitler is granted German citizenship

Adolf Hitler - not German? An unbearable thought for his party comrades in 1932, and yet it is true: Hitler was born in 1889 in Braunau am Inn, and gave up his Austrian citizenship in 1925 and had been since stateless - that of course is not a good prerequisite to reach the highest political offices in Germany. German citizenship was needed. With that Hitlers friends within the party staged a political farce and appointed their party leader senior civil servant of the National Culture and Land Surveying Office in Braunschweig. Hitler immediately applied several leave requests and never took office but his German citizenship was now secure. When he obtained it on February 25th 1932 he was to have said: "You don't need to congratulate me but you need to congratulate Germany."
