November 26th, 1832 - The worlds first tramway '

At the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900, the "rolling sidewalk" is "all the rage" of public transportation. But it remains a peculiar "irony of history", as horse-pulled trams had already been part of streets in Paris at that time. The first tram, invented by John Stephensen, began operation on November 26th, 1832 in New York between Harlem and Manhattan. The horse-pulled carts were already running - like this one here in Berlin - on wheels. The carpet- and upholstery-equipped wagons had a 30 passenger capacity.
